Most of our users have simple needs, like turning your Notion page into a clean website. But there are cases when you want something more. Based on the feedback we received, many of our users want to create a website, but also keep their source Notion page private for security reasons.

So we came up with a solution.

In this article we’ll show you how you can create a public website, but also:

Keep Your Notion Page Private

The solution is simple. Instead of keeping your source Notion page public, now you have the option to keep it private, and when you want to make an update, publish it temporarily and manually sync it.

Here is how it works:

1. Finish all the Work on Your Website

Important to know that in order to see changes in your website, your Notion page has to be public too. So at the beginning, when you work on your website, you need to keep the source Notion page public.

2. Enable Private Notion Page Mode

After you finished all the work on your website, enable “Private Notion Page Mode”. Just go to WebsitePages and tick the box there.

3. Make Your Notion Page Private (Unpublished)

After you enabling “Private Notion page mode” option, you can make your source Notion page private again. Just hit the “Unpublish” button inside Notion. This will not affect your live Simple.Ink website. Your site will remain with the last received information from your source Notion page.

4. Publish Your Page When You Want a Change

Any time you need to make a change, you need to make your Notion page public again, so that Simple.Ink can read it and make the necessary changes. So when you want to make an update to your website, temporary make it public by pressing the “Publish” button.

5. Sync Your Website Manually

After making your source Notion page temporarily public, make the necessary changes to your source Notion page, then sync the it manually. All you need to do is to go to Simple.Ink, and under the menu find WebsitePages. Here you will see the “Sync my website!” button. Press it to sync all the changes that you made in your Notion page, to your Simple.ink website.

6. Turn Your Notion Page Private Again

After you made the required changes and you synced it successfully to your website, you can simply turn your source Notion page back to being private. And that is it.

Any time you want to make a change, these are the steps that you need to take. And of course, if any time you have questions or you need assistance, feel free to contact us.
